Introduction
I recently completed a community t-shirt graphic design project for Flores Is Not That Bad. This vibrant community group highlights local culture and positive regional narratives. As the graphic designer on this project, I took full responsibility for creating custom artwork for their apparel. My primary goal was to craft a bold design that members would wear proudly.
Project Overview
The Flores Is Not That Bad community needed a distinct merchandise design. They wanted custom t-shirt artwork that represented their shared spirit and visual identity. Their previous merchandise lacked a unified artistic style. As the project graphic designer, I was tasked with creating an eye-catching illustration. I focused entirely on designing vector graphics that look modern and visually compelling on apparel.
My Role
As the graphic designer, I managed the entire creative design workflow from initial concepts to final digital assets. I collaborated with community leaders to understand their vision and brand message. Using CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator, I crafted clean vector art for sharp resolution. Additionally, I used Photoshop to build realistic apparel mockups so the team could visualize the final look.
Design & Development Process
My design process followed a structured creative pipeline to deliver high-quality digital deliverables.
First, I sketched initial concepts based on community feedback and regional themes. I selected typography and visual elements that communicated high energy and togetherness.
Second, I digitized the chosen sketch into a vector format. Working in CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator, I drew precise vector paths. I kept line weights consistent and selected strong, contrasting colors for maximum visual impact.
Third, I imported the vector assets into Photoshop to create realistic apparel mockups. This step helped community stakeholders evaluate how the design sat on different shirt colors. Finally, I delivered print-ready vector source files to the client team for their vendors.
Key Features
- Custom Vector Artwork: I drew original illustrations using Illustrator and CorelDraw for sharp scaling.
- High-Resolution Mockups: I rendered realistic apparel previews in Photoshop to evaluate design placement.
- Custom Typography: I selected and adjusted letterforms to match the energetic community brand.
- Scalable Graphic Assets: I organized clean vector layers that adapt easily to different garment sizes.
- Versatile Design Formats: I delivered complete source files in AI, CDR, PNG, and PDF formats.
- Vibrant Visual Palette: I chose balanced color schemes designed to pop on dark and light fabrics.
Challenges
Executing a community t-shirt graphic design project involves creating complex artwork that translates well onto fabric. Fine line details and intricate typography can easily lose visual impact if the graphic composition is overly crowded.
I solved this by simplifying complex vector paths and focusing on bold line work in CorelDraw and Illustrator. By refining contrast and adjusting letter spacing, I ensured the graphic retained its clarity and readability across all visual presentation formats.
Technologies Used
- CorelDraw: Vector design software used for layout structuring and line illustration.
- Adobe Illustrator: Primary vector editor used for refining paths and typography.
- Adobe Photoshop: Raster image tool utilized for mockups and visual presentation assets.
Project Outcome
The finished artwork provided Flores Is Not That Bad with an iconic community shirt design. Through my targeted design work, the community received a modern visual asset for their merchandise line. The client team received complete, organized source files, allowing them to proceed smoothly with their production plans.
